Product Description

This painting is from Ragamala series of Kangra paintings. In Ragamala paintings a raga is personified using symbolism of deities or nayaka-nayika. The theme, characters and their attitudes, colours, background, etc. are composed to evoke the mood and sentiment of that raga.

Raga Kalinga, son of Raga Dipaka, is visualised as Krishna resting on a cushion of lotus flowers spread on Sheshnag, the king of serpents, in this painting. The peacock feather crown decorates the head, while the ears are ornamented with earrings; the flute over the lower lip enchants the universe. With beautiful eyes, arched eyebrows and a garland of flowers round the neck, Lord Krishna captivates the heart.
