In the stuffy heat of the rainy season following spells of rain, it is a delight to sway in a swing.In the 18th century France swing were invented, for the skirts were too long , and the swings swept up the skirts in the breeze to the delight of the beaus below.In the paintings of Fragonard such scenes are commonly shown.In India, however , a swing was a genuine necessity for cooling the body, particularlu in an age when electri fans were not known.In this painting the lady , attended by her servants and companions , is enjoying the swing.
